Kumnick Days 03:25
Stories told when we're older To anyone who cares Like returning the stolen Bottle of 'who dares' Reminiscing the distance And those who were there Stories are told as we grow Remembering tales of the old But in the end Only the good times remain Liquid-in trigger-finger A barrelled beer for three Power-armour the hero (Power Arm Hero) The years that we were free Back in the Kumnick days / back in a Kumnick daze We were not too fazed We live in a Kumnick daze Kumnick Days Stories are told as we grow Remembering tales of the old But in the end Only the good times remain Let the good times roll

There's nowhere a pigeonhole for you You wont feel without a bruise or two You could put fear into their eyes Finally It's not about popularity 'Cos they're useless You're not the same Punctured lung could never take you down You'll still have the biggest lungs around Don't let the vultures have their way Finally It's not about popularity 'Cos they're useless You're not the same Then the media told you They're the source of truth Can I read your fortune Tell me something about you And show me who they follow now Finally It's not about popularity 'Cos they're useless You're not the same Finally It's all about personality And they're useless You're not the same You're not the same We're not the same Nothing's the same Never again

Pixieland 03:31
When will the 'Jokes' be played now that a punchline's gone away? We're living in memories within the jokes and stories of Gottensbury I don't know when I'm coming home again Our stories told going on and on and then we're home I'm playing the old set through and missing the shooting the breeze with you Stuck in a "plex" again, take me back to a Pixieland and another can We're free to roam but we'll dream of home again I don't know when I'm coming home again Our stories told going on and on and then we're home I don't know when I'm coming home again The traveled roads lead us on and on until we're home We travel down these streets Living our own dreams Floating down these streams Until we find our way home Journey down these streets Walk on our two feet We live in our own streams

Breakaway 04:27
When the first was falling in No compromise was made Bridges burning down Breakaway We thought we could have been I thought we were a team But I could not stay (Hard) Please forgive me (Fall) As I'm leaving (We're standing down) When I'm standing down You're falling down The cracking starts to show When the warnings are not known 'Cos we're all on our own page We'd never thing the same When it all comes back to me Can't you see I had to leave It's time to break away To change (Hard) Please forgive me (Fall) As I'm leaving (We're standing down) So now I'm standing down We're falling down (Hard) As it all comes down to this (Fall) All the pain and suffering (We're falling down) So I wont be falling down I'll break away These paths we take You're hands in mine (Now you're falling down) Break this time (We're all falling down) The stand back in '9 (Now you're falling down) We break this time (This is breaking down)

We live these lines but what for, but what for? We're carried through time but what for, what for? Time will come upon on us one day You go yours and I'll go my way We're coming 'round again Around the mountain once again Facing Meridian Fate has brought us to this place This world, this time, this space We shall see We carry on with these same songs The lines we wrote, they still want more They're still implored Do they still applaud and hear these words? Do we know? This world, this space, this time Fate has brought us to this place This world, this time, this space Life's too short, we're not alone so do things now Before your time is gone We shall see Stories told of life behold, unto unfold, continued maze Can we start again We're coming 'round again Around the mountain once again Facing Meridian This space, this time Fate has brought us to this place This world, this time, this space Life's too short, we're not alone so do things now Before you're time is gone We shall see And we're coming around again Facing Meridian We're not alone so do things now Before your time is gone We shall see

about

"The Jokes of Gottensbury" is a tribute to a band of the same name that existed 2009-2011 in the bottom of beer cans and at shed and loungeroom parties. The Jokes (or even "JOG" if we were really lazy) were/are (who the hell knows) an Adelaide metal/rock band consisting of Jeremy Ashley, Josh Lamont and Joe Byrnes. While the songs were mostly complete(ish) and nearing a point where perhaps one day the guys would actually play a proper gig, the band were put on indefinite hiatus when Byrnes relocated to Sydney. There was the other problem of not having an official drummer - iDrummmer 3000 doesn't count.

The songs here are an acoustic re-working of the songs from that band, some following the original structure more than others, which have been re-crafted by Byrnes following the release of the "Prelude" (2014) and "Drawings"/"He Sells Shit-Bits By The C-Side" (2015) material. Byrnes, in an effort to purge/destroy all older works from his back catelog through acoustic "re-imaginings" (bashings/tinkering/explorations) has recorded the full JOG set as part of the historical time capsuling and at some point he will actually complete the new (actually new! but not anymore?) material he started writing 3 years ago.

This is Byrnes' 5th release as a solo artist and 2nd under his own name, bringing the released track count to around 50 in 2 years. Thought that wasn't too bad.

Although the material on this release is for the most part a rehash of older material from The Jokes of Gottensbury band (Ashley/Lamont/Byrnes), the songs are new to most - including Byrnes, who is actually still in the middle of writing and arranging them. Hence more tracks from this release to come.
